John 4:14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
I noticed a gutter on the back of the Sunday school building. As rain falls onto the roof it flows down the roof top, and collects in the gutters. From the gutters it flows into downspouts and is directed away from the building. The gutters are used to channel water into areas where it will be beneficial and not destructive to the building.
Gutters have to be maintained on a regular basis or they can get clogged with leaves or storm debris. When they become clogged they aren't able to properly channel the water. Did you know that God uses Christians as a channel to deliver His Word to this world? Its true the Holy Spirit flows through the believer and allows people to see the character of God. Even in a church service the congregation is a channel that God uses to sing praise, and share His Word.
However, if the channel gets clogged God will not be able to use us for His glory. When we quench, or grieve the Holy Spirit, by sitting in silence or apathy, or when we will not obey the will of God, the Holy Spirit is not able to flow through us or move in the service with power because something or someone has hindered. Don't forget, to keep the flow going we must do regular maintenance.
