Prayer Partners

Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

"Prayer moves the hand that moves the universe", is powerful quote; Luther said, "to say you are a Christian and not pray is like saying you are alive and not breathing". Prayer is the essence of the Christian life, it's where we get our strength, find grace, and fellowship with God; it's the only way I know to give our burdens to the Lord.

When I read of great Christians of the past and present they have one thing in common: a prayer life. I've heard personal testimonies of some praying for hours every day. I know some people would say that's impossible, but it's not, look at how much time we spend every day on social media.

Matthew shares with us an advantage we can use in prayer, a prayer partner. He tells the believer if you have someone who will agree to pray with you, your Heavenly Father will move on your behalf. Agreement rules out selfish motives, sometimes people jokingly say "I'm praying that I hit the lottery", a prayer partner would help clarify our motives in such a request. The Bible tells us two are better than one because if one of the two is down the other can give a little extra to help. Some days it might be difficult to pray but a prayer partner can stand in the hedge and make up the gap on those days. It's someone to make us accountable, they won't allow us to quit praying, as a team we talk about our burdens and fight this spiritual battle on our knees together.

Jesus did not make a mistake when He sent the disciples out in groups of two, he knew they would need each other. I hope you have a close friend who has agreed to pray with you until your Heavenly Father has answered your prayer.
