Stop Running

Jonah 1:1-3

1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. God asked Jonah to go into the land of Nineveh to proclaim His word to the people. Nineveh was not exactly the best place for an outsider to be. In fact, the Bible refers to it as a bloody land. This would take Jonah completely out of his comfort zone. Jonah is faced with a big decision, and we all know the choice he made. He wanted to get as far away from Nineveh as he could. In a non-prayerful moment he runs and begins to put everyone in his path in Jeopardy. Its amazing at the amount of time he puts into getting away from just simply being obedient. But isn't it true that we all avoid situations that make us uncomfortable? Keep this in mind before running from God. Jonah was never allowed to be successful in life until he surrendered and his his action effected everyone around him. No person has ever been able to out smart or out run God. Regardless how hard you try, you may run from God's will, but you NEVER get away from the calling. Obedience is the only way to be happy in Jesus.
