Romans 8:22
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
These words used in scripture are a description of a mother in labor, feeling the pains of the contractions, and as they get stronger and closer together they signal that birth is near. Yet this verse is directed toward the earth not a mother, the Scripture only uses birth pains as a comparison. God's word tells us that the second coming of Jesus Christ will be similar to the birth of a child, the earth will travail in painful contractions, and they will increase as the time draws closer.
We learn from Matthew 24 the contractions are world wide disasters. Things like plagues, hurricanes, earthquakes, wars and rumors of wars, they will all be front page news as the end nears. Every day seems to bring another blow to the earth, sometimes I wonder can things get any worse? And other days I feel like global catastrophes have become the new norm.
These signs are not without purpose they are visible signs of fulfilled prophecy. They are signs for unbelievers to prepare to meet God, and for believers to get to work for God. Each visible sign is like a mile marker on the side of the interstate that indicates we are getting closer to home with each passing mile.
Jesus, and Jesus alone, while hanging from the cross, held the hand of a holy God and the hand of sinful man creating a way that man can be reconciled with God. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. Be ready for in an hour as you think not the Son Of Man cometh.
