Think of the Cross

There’s a cross that hangs in the baptistry at church. Sometimes when the preacher is preaching my mind goes to Calvary and I imagine myself there at the bottom of the cross among the crowd watching from a distance. The cries are loud and sadness is heavy like a thick fog. My eyes are fixed on Jesus and I’m crying. I’m filled with emotions, emotions of guilt, shame, and unworthiness. I try to look away and move on but I can’t, I’m drawn to the cross so I move closer. I look up and Jesus looks down, His eyes meet mine, piercing my soul. His love is so much stronger than the weight of my sins and I fall to my knees. An overwhelming feeling of forgiveness washes over me. This is the exact feeling I experienced the day I got saved, the feeling of love and I wanted that kind of love.

Sometimes my mind takes me back to a cinder block basement where I was sitting in Children’s Church listening to a story about Jesus. I don’t remember all of the details but I do remember praying the sinner’s prayer. As a child I would look up at the blue sky and think about Heaven with such wonder and amazement, the rapture has never scared me, it’s something I have always looked forward to even back then.

I’m older and the pages of my story have a lot written in them now. “HE who began a good work in me will complete it”. I hope I never forget to let my mind take me back to the cross and the day I got saved, it’s there I’m reminded that His mercy was poured out for me.

It was God’s grace that saved me that day and there’s enough for all of us because the ground is level at the foot of the cross. Where would any of us be without the cross? Do you know him today? You can!

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 10:9-10

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
